Introduction

Aims This Nutrition, Hydration & Healthy Living Downloadable Distance Learning Pack aims to raise awareness of best practice in relation to Healthy living and nutrition. It will highlight issues surrounding mealtimes in a care setting and encourage staff to problem solve. The vitamin content of food and the need for regular fluid intake will also be addressed and staffs’ responsibilities in relation to the above.

  • Introduction to healthy eating including conditions brought on by poor nutrition
  • Problems surrounding meal times and problems solving
  • Recommendations for healthy eating and different dietary conditions
  • Vitamins their functions and vitamin deficiencies
  • Signs and symptoms of dehydration

On completion of this Nutrition, Hydration & Healthy Living Distance Learning Pack each candidate will be able to:

  • Recognise what healthy eating is highlighting problems that occur through poor nutrition
  • Highlight problems that can occur at meal times and identify how to overcome these
  • Outline the Food Guide Pyramid and food recommendations for older people
  • Identify different foods and their vitamin content
  • Recognise specific conditions caused through vitamin deficiency
  • Determine the importance of hydration and know how to promote fluid intake
